Triangle pose is a very common yoga pose. It is done in many beginner yoga classes and has many benefits.
Often times in beginner yoga classes blocks will be used so that the hand an be placed on one for support without he need for really flexible hamstrings. You can also just place the hand below the knee for support which is much easier than using a block and provides the same support.
Increases lateral flexibility. Quite often the lower back has imbalanced muscles due to overuse of on side. Triangle pose provides a great opportunity to stretch the lower back muscles laterally.
Triangle pose increases hamstring flexibility. Once again one side is usually stiffer than the other so hold on the tight side.
Triangle pose stretches and balances scapula muscles.
