Adrenal Gland Adrenal Gland

Adrenal Gland Information

Adrenal Gland There are two adrenal glands in our body. They are situated above the kidneys and consist of and inner part (medulla) and outer part (cortex). The inner part secretes hormones that affect many aspects of the sympathetic nervous system. The outer part plays an important role in the potassium and salt levels in our body. Both inner and outer parts of the adrenal gland affect our blood pressure. Fluctuating heart rhythms will usually accompany adrenal problems.

Problems can be caused by the hypothalamus or pituitary failing to produce hormones that control the adrenal glands or some kind of cancer, disease or infection in or around the gland. In many cases the actual cause is unknown but we suspect it may be an autoimmune response.

Some less serious problems can be caused by poor diet and lifestyle.

Major problems can occur when the adrenal glands produce to much or to little hormone.

If you have had part or all of your adrenal glands removed you will need to be medicated by modern medicine. These pages will help make the amount you need as small as possible.

We have created a sequence that moves blood to the pituitary and causes lots of movement around the adrenal glands. The sequence is designed to move fluids around the body completely without to much strain on the muscles. The sequence may be beneficial to underactive adrenal gland problems because it stimulates underactive adrenal glands while giving them a gentle massage and aiding the distribution of hormone being release from them.

When the area around the adrenal gland is moved in every direction a number of times hormone from the adrenal gland is carried around the body with ease. This can cause the pituitary to be more perceptive of the amounts and balance of a hormone in the body and react. Also many of the symptoms that follow an overavtive adrenal gland can be greatly reduced such as the stomach pain and acidity. Appetite can be returned to normal almost immediately after performing a sequence.

Just some of the benefits of performing a regular sequence are above. But it must be done daily for at least 30 minutes before results are felt. You cannot do the yoga sequence once every 3 days and expect to feel much better. The yoga will help balance the body but the effect will slowly ware away throughout the day. So it should really be done twice a day. If done correct you can feel completely calm and balanced.

Adrenal Gland Underactive

Addisons disease is categorized by adrenal glands not producing enough corticosteroids. This may cause an increase in the potassium being kept in the body and decrease in sodium. A sensitivity to insulin may also occur.

Detecting Addison's disease may be quite hard. You may need a number of tests but a complete blood count should show the sodium and potassium levels and may show a lack of corticosteroids.

Some possible indications are skin becoming a little darker without an increase in our normal exposure to the sun, loss of weight, no appetite, vomiting, dizziness after standing or sitting, nausea, dehydration, diarrhea and an intolerance to cold. Symptoms seem to become more apparent when the bodies stress levels are increased.

If the disease is not treated our blood pressure can become very low, kidney failure can occur, abdominal pain can become intense and we can become extremely weak.

Addisons disease can be fatal. Modern medical treatment usually consists of a course of corticosteroids such as prednisone. This is necessary to balance the potassium and sodium levels in the body however these drugs also suppress immunity so try lots of alternative medicine to reduce the amount of the corticosteroid your body needs.

Adrenal Gland Overactive

When the adrenal gland is overactive medical treatment varies depending on which hormones are being over produced. (androgenic steroids, corticosteroids, aldosterone)

When the adrenal gland produces too much androgenic steroids the body may develop extreme masculine characteristics such as deepening of the voice, more hair can be produced on the body, reduction of hair on the head. In woman the clitoris may enlarge, the breast shrink and menstruation can become irregular or completely stop.

Androgenic steroid levels can be detected in the urine. If the results are abnormally high further tests can determine whether the cause is a cancerous growth, a non-cancerous growth or an enlargement of the adrenal gland (adrenal hyperplasia) causing the problem.

Cancerous growths are surgically removed. Adrenal hyperplasia can be treated with certain corticosteroids to reduce the production of androgenic steroids being produced. However side effects can be very negative on the body.

Over production of Corticosteroids can be caused by the pituitary producing to much corticotropin which causes the adrenal gland to secrete cortisone. (This can result in Cushings Syndrome. Fat distribution in the body can be greatly affected.

Over production of aldosterone can cause the body to excrete less sodium and more potassium. Symptoms include extreme weakness and high blood pressure.
